Bound - 2026
Cotton Bedding, Cotton Batting, Reclaimed Fabric & Dye.
‘Bound’ explores repair, reconstruction and material memory through the transformation of discarded textiles and furniture. Drawing on the tradition of Welsh quilts, the work references their layered construction and sense of inherited care. Large reclaimed fabric sheets were cut into strips and wrapped around the frame, creating a supportive framework which was used to secure the quilted backing and painted seat panels.
The binding process is slow and intentional, carried out meditatively or during conversation, embedding moments of connection and care into the chair itself.
The quilt panels were constructed from roughly cut fabric scraps, embracing visible construction methods. Each panel was hand painted with dye to create a textured surface, this was then layered with painted motifs and free hand machine embroidery. The panels were then tied and bound directly onto the chair frame, allowing the structure to remain visibly adaptive. Loose strips of fabric act as remnants of the making process.
